Dr. Cynthia Jackson

Founder & CEO
Cynthia is a visionary and is a committed advocate for food justice and the rights of underserved persons. She is a native of Athens, GA and received degrees from Duke University, Emory University, and The University of Georgia. Cynthia has had a career in law enforcement and ministry and uses all of her education and experience to advocate for others. In 2017, Cynthia also established Jackson Inspirations, Inc., a non-profit organization to serve her community with a connect four approach. The connect four approach allows Jackson Inspirations to focus on connecting people to healthy food, community, health resources, and educational programming. The focus of the organization is rooted in Cynthia’s passion for healthy foods and food advocacy. For years, she has been part of community supported agriculture, has raised livestock, has gardened, and is a member of Georgia Organics, the Southeastern African American Farmers Organic Network, Georgia Center for Nonprofits, and the Rockdale Community Resource Network. 

Taneisha Alvarez

Board Chair
Taneisha brings considerable knowledge and insight from over 10 years in the healthcare industry. She earned a Bachelors of Arts from The University of Georgia and a Master's of Science in Nursing Science with a concentration in anesthesia from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She is the President of Siesta, PLLC which provides anesthesia services to patients with a myriad of health conditions in the Washington, D.C. area. She enjoys opportunities that allow her to improve fluency in the Spanish language, traveling and is constantly researching her next adventure. 

Attorney Barry Porter

Board Member
Barry joins us with an extensive background of partnering with industrial manufacturing, technology, and product business teams, most recently serving as Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance for Dover Food Retail. Barry has also worked at companies such as Carrier Corporation, where he served as Associate Director, Legal, and prior to that Legal Counsel with Novelis and United Technologies. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and earned his Doctor of Law from North Carolina Central University. Barry also is certified in the Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University. 

Hattie Thomas Whitehead

Board Member
Hattie is a community leader and activist with a passion for improving the health and lives of individuals. With the aid of her family, she developed the Athens StepUp Scholarship Program for Athens-Clarke County, which has seventy eight $500 scholarships. Hattie’s most recent accomplishment was writing a book, "Giving Voice to Linnentown", that chronicles life in Linnentown (a former Athens, GA community) and her role in seeking justice on behalf of the first descendant residents of Linnentown.

Aubrey Johnson-Dukes

Board Member
Aubrey is an innovative and results-driven leader. She is focused on achieving exponential results. Experienced in developing and strengthening mathematical understanding through interactive, engaging, and meaningful lessons, Aubrey is also known for building and motivating cross-functional teams that exceed expectations while increasing efficiency.
